Yesterday ie., 02-december-2009 I went to Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai to handle sessions in the Faculty Development Program on Free Open Source Software. This is same (for the engineering college faculty in southern region of TamilNadu) as that of the workshop which I took last week in Jaya Engineering College.
Joe Steeve and myself shared the day with our sessions. Joe Steeve spoke on "GNU build tools".
I handled two topics namely "CVS - patch - diff" and "Web Servers". Around 30 faculties participated in the sessions. Afternoon we had hands on in the lab, where all the participants worked out whatever they learnt in the morning.
On last Friday ie., 05-06-2009, http://dev.tce.edu/ went live with "Redmine". The previous "trac" based site was replaced with Redmine, considering the ease of administering projects with a web interface. The alpha run (April 25th, 2009) of Redmine site was served using FCGI over apache which was very slow and the performance was not up to the mark. But now we run the production site using mod_rails over apache2 which is faster!
Also the subversion repository creation is automated
Yesterday around 22:00 HRS IST FStival.org website went live! It has very basic information, which will grow in the future.
This will serve as an one stop shop for all the information concerned with FStival and Software Freedom Day celebrations conducted as a part of GLUGOT and GLUG-Madurai. This website is done using Drupal 6.4, with some cool modules :)
Yesterday around 22:00 IST Planet TCE was launched. It took me just an hour to come up with this planet. Planet is a wonderful software which is very flexible. Right now the planet has minimal subscription and in future it will grow with more subscriptions. It aggregates blog feeds of students/staff/alumnus of Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai.
Will try to tweak the CSS of this planet when I find time :)
